Thomas Okedi
For more than 25 years, Thomas Okedi has worked at the intersection of humanitarian action, development leadership, and transformational change, serving in some of the world’s most complex and demanding environments. From the conflict-affected regions of Darfur in Sudan, Afghanistan, Yemen, and Somalia, to the humanitarian crises of Northeast Nigeria, the refugee-hosting communities of Gambella in Ethiopia, the recovery landscapes of Northern Cambodia, and post-conflict settings across Northern, Karamoja, Teso, and Southwestern Uganda, he has dedicated his career to improving lives, strengthening organisations, and building sustainable pathways to resilience.
Thomas is widely respected for his inclusive leadership style, commitment to developing people and systems, and ability to turn complex challenges into practical, results-oriented solutions. Colleagues and teams describe him as a strategic thinker with a rare talent for simplifying complexity whether through innovative strategic planning approaches, user-friendly project management tools, capacity-strengthening initiatives, or the development of high-performing teams that deliver impact with efficiency, accountability, and purpose.
Beyond humanitarian and development programming, Thomas is a passionate advocate for leadership excellence and organisational transformation. His expertise spans middle-management development, change management, partnership management, talent acquisition, performance management, and organisational capacity strengthening. Throughout his career, he has helped individuals and organisations unlock their potential, navigate change, and achieve higher levels of performance and impact.
As an author, Thomas brings the same passion for transformation to the written word. He believes that books are powerful instruments for preserving identity, inspiring action, and equipping people with practical tools for success. His first book, The Iteso: History, Culture, and Identity in Changing Times, explores the rich heritage of the Iteso while examining the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the Teso region of Uganda. His second publication, How to Find a Job and Become a Star Performer, equips career starters and professionals in transition with practical strategies for securing meaningful employment and excelling in the workplace.
Thomas is currently a Doctorate of Strategic Leadership candidate at Southeastern University, where he also earned a Master’s degree in Organisational Leadership. He additionally holds a Master of Science in Public Health from Clarke International University and a Bachelor of Community Psychology from Makerere University. His academic journey reflects his lifelong commitment to understanding and advancing leadership, organisational effectiveness, and human development.
